How It Works

How it Works

CoRe harvests the metadata from the IMS Manifest in content packages and uses this to create a searchable index. If you are using the submitter to add content, the manifest is created by the submitter, and the metadata is then immediately added to the search index.

If you are adding existing IMS Content Packages there is an automatic indexing script that will harvest the metadata. This can be run on thousands of content packages at the same time. IMS Content Packages generated with Reload, eCAT, CourseGenie, and Microsoft Producer have all been successfully tested.

Navigation for packages is dynamically generated. This gets round the problem for Intranet users of a lack of static menus within Content Packages designed for use within VLEs.

How To Use It

Searches can be done using most Boolean query terms. One can search for whole words only, use phrase searches, search for results in which words must appear, search within results, order results by date, filter results by media type and more.

Users can link to content directly from within the repository. They can link to whole packages or to individual screens (where available) within packages. Links can be pasted into VLEs, web pages and so on.

For Moodle users CoRe will integrate directly into Moodle, appearing as another 'resource type'.

Content packages can be downloaded by authorised users.
