CoRe is an Instititional Content Repository. Many institutions have large and growing amounts of digital learning and teaching content. The problem is managing this content. Without the means to store content in a satisfactory way the full benefit of it will not be realised. Putting it in a directory structure is likely to be laborious for administrators, and not particularly easy for users. CoRe enables institutions to store content as IMS content objects, with metadata. This makes it much simpler for users to find content.

There are two components, the Repository and the Submitter. The repository is where the user can find what they need by searching or browsing. The submitter is the tool for adding content to the repository.

In addition CoRe can ingest pre-existing IMS content packages. This is an automated process.

CoRe is highly configurable. Look and feel are controlled through CSS and templates. Authentication can be internal, linked to LDAP or Active Directory, or users can self-register. There are also options for pass-through authentication via a Portal. The taxonomy used can be changed and modified.

CoRe can also be integrated into Moodle, so that Moodle designers can find content and link to it in a few simple steps
